Practice playing when kneeling at a low block

One of the most effective ways to get an infant to start taking weight on the arms in a kneeling position is to practice kneeling at a low step.

Kneeling at a low block requires less arm strength

In this video clip you see Roan managing to support herself on her arm in prone kneeling for a short time. However, if requires a lot of effort and she appears to be quite stuck, and makes no attemtps to shift her weight and explore the position. Eventually she collopses and lowers her head to the floor.

In contrast, when she kneels with her hands on a low step, she is able to maintain the position easily, and shifts her weight onto one arm as she reaches for toys.

In this position she is able to explore the different options for movement.

One month later - more control

In this video you see Roan (11 months)  move from sitting to kneeling  facing a 10 cm high foam block.  Once in kneeling she reaches for toys in different directions which creates many opportunities for practicing weight transference over her knees.
