Tipping a bottle and mimicking actions
In this video you see Will exploring the different attributes of 3 1 liter plastic bottles partially filled with different amounts of water .
In the first part of the video you see me showing him how to tip a bottle up side down and then right way up again.
Will carefully watches what I am doing and then with practice manages to do a similar action.
Stacking water bottles is not possible
Having mastered this task, he engages in self-initiated actions. He explores the possibility of stacking the bottles - but quickly finds out that this is not possible with bottles. He has learned that the shape of plastic water bottle does not allow them to be stacked.
However, he is not convinced that bottles cannot be stacked, and tries several time during the
Banging bottles
Will then goes on to play a game of banging the bottles on the floor.
As he does this he is learning how the weight of the bottles influences the effort that needs to be expended to lift each bottles.
At the same time he is learning that the weight of the different bottles affects the perturbing forces created by the banging action and this in turn influences the stabilizing forces needed to keep the head and trunk stable.
With each banging action the movement brain is comparing the expected sensorimotor feedback from the action to the actual feedback. This comparison of predicted and actual feedback is used to update the brains representation of the action.
